Greater Washington, DC
The new house is organized into a series of connected pavilions each with a distinct purpose. Focused on an open court, the pavilions include the main living, dining, and food preparation area; home library and offices; a suite including the primary bedroom and bath; a lodging and living pavilion for guests; and a garage and service structure. Flat roof areas provide formal breaks between the sloped volumes of the pavilions and serve as transitional spaces e.g. the foyer. Exteriors are detailed in Shou Sugi Ban wood siding and stained cedar trim. Exercise and spa pools are placed downslope to preserve and curate views during winter months.
